Janet Dukes: The reason I wrote Harold and Tyler – Bravery.
When my son, Jarrell, was a toddler, I noticed that people would stare, point, and laugh at him. As he grew older, I noticed that people found it hard to accept him as just a little boy. I don’t mean just strangers either. From our experiences, Harold and Tyler Bravery was birthed.
The goal of the book is to bring light to the fact that individuals with “specific needs” are people too, they have feelings, and they want to be loved. We want to promote acceptance and kindness. We want to show how people can have the courage to stand up to bullies and not perpetuate the bullying. That is our Bravery component. We hope to one day partner with an anti-bullying organization.
